Past Conferences – The 8th International Conference on the Dynamics of Information Systems (DIS 2025)

History of the DIS Conference:

The Dynamics of Information Systems (DIS) Conference, a prominent continuation of the successful DIS series held across the United States and Europe, explores the intersections and emerging fields within information science, optimization, operations research, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The origins of this conference can be traced back to the Workshop on Cooperative Control and Optimization, held from December 3–5, 2000, in Gainesville, Florida, which was organized by Professor Panos M. Pardalos and hosted successfully by the Air Force Research Laboratory and the University of Florida.

This workshop laid the foundation for the Cooperative Control and Optimization series, which ran successfully for eight editions, from 2000 to 2008. During this period, the conference was held at various locations in Florida, including the University of Florida, and organized by prominent figures in the field, including S. Butenko, R. Murphey, D. Grundel, O. A. Prokopyev, and others.

Recognizing the need to broaden the scope and reflect the evolving focus of the conference, Professor Pardalos decided to rebrand the event. Thus, the International Conference on the Dynamics of Information Systems (DIS) was born, with the inaugural event held from January 28–30, 2009, at the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the conference’s history, with the first five editions organized by Professor Pardalos and his colleagues, including R. Murphey, M.J. Hirsch, V. Boginski, My Thai, A. Sorokin, and M. Banghart, from 2009 to 2013.

In 2023, Dr. Hossein Moosaei revived the DIS conference after a decade, collaborating with Professor Milan Hladík to host its sixth edition from September 3–6, 2023 at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Following this, Professor Pardalos appointed Dr. Moosaei as the conference chair to continue the legacy. This is the history of the conference, which continues to thrive today.
